January 21, 2008

Public Invited to Quinette Cemetery Inaugural Ceremony

Kirkwood, Missouri – October 10, 2003 - The City of Kirkwood is having an inaugural ceremony on October 18, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. to formally accept the donation of Quinette Cemetery, a Kirkwood landmark, from Jim Holtzman of Miracle Design. Jim Baker, chairperson of the Quinette Cemetery Advisory Committee whose mission is to advise the Landmarks Commission and City Council on the long-term plan for the maintenance, conservation, use and protection of the historic cemetery, will give a history of the cemetery and present some of the ideas that the Committee will suggest for the preservation and improvement of the cemetery.

Mayor Swoboda will present a proclamation and accept the Landmarks plaque for the property from Mr. Holtzman.  Olive Chapel A.M.E. church, the original owner of the cemetery until it was sold in 1987, will play a part in the inauguration through the Chancel Choir and Rev. January Kiefer. Relatives and friends of those buried there, as well as the public, are invited to attend and tour the cemetery after the brief ceremony.
