Angela Bates, President Nicodemus Historical Society

Angela Bates is a decendent of the settlers who established the historic all African American town of Nicodemus, Kansas in 1877. She organized and became the first president of the Nicodemus Historical Society, is responsible for the town becoming a National Historic Site, and established the Nicodemus Historical Society Museum and the society’s archives at the University of Kansas Spencer Research Library. She has received many awards for her efforts, including a Life Time Achievment Award.

      Hello: I am Opal Roberts and am v. pres. of our Lane Co. HistoricalSociety.
      I am inquiring about the possibility of your being our keynote speaker for our anual meeting Thursday, January 12, 2012….
      It is usuallyattended by 50 or more folks. We are an aging group also. . We have an evening meal, short review of our years events, election of new officers and then keynote speaker.
